Why Aruga
We set out to fix an industry we believed was letting businesses down. Too slow, too opaque, and not innovating fast enough. Aruga was built to be different.

David Taylor
Founder and MD
After years working in cyber security, I kept seeing the same problems. Clients paying significant fees, getting slow response times and a monthly PDF as their only window into what was happening. The industry was not innovating and businesses were paying the price. We built Aruga to fix that.
Founded by former UK Armed Forces personnel
Proud signatory of the Armed Forces Covenant
UK-based team delivering security and incident response
Security built around service, communication and accountability
Why we started
David Taylor and Daniel Long spent their careers in defence and cyber security, working across military, public sector, and private sector environments. When they looked at the managed security market, they kept seeing the same things.
Clients were paying significant fees to providers who sent a monthly report, moved slowly, and gave them no real visibility into what was happening in their environment. The technology existed to do far better. The will to use it, and build a service around outcomes rather than outputs, was in short supply.
Aruga was founded on a straightforward belief: if you build a SOC properly, with the right technology, the right people, and a genuine commitment to transparency, you can dramatically outperform what the market was offering, at a price that works for the businesses that need it most.
Clients were getting slow response times and no real visibility. A monthly PDF is not transparency.
The technology to do better already existed. What was missing was a provider willing to build a service around it.
Smaller businesses were priced out of proper protection entirely. That felt like a problem worth fixing.
Military experience taught us that discipline, accountability, and transparency are not optional. We brought that mindset into cyber security.
How we are different
We are not the biggest name in cyber security. But we consistently outperform providers that are, and our clients' results show it.
Founded by Royal Navy Submarine Service and British Army veterans with 20-plus years in defence and cyber security. That background shapes everything: rigour, accountability, and a service-first mindset that does not switch off.
Every alert, every containment action, every decision is visible in Microsoft Teams as it happens. You see what we see, in real time. No ticket portals. No chasing updates.
Our detection and threat-hunting tools are Aruga's own, developed with Innovate UK backing. We are not reselling someone else's platform, which means we tune, adapt, and improve faster than any reseller can.
We are a Microsoft Solutions Partner with deep experience in Sentinel and Defender XDR. For organisations already running Microsoft 365, our service integrates without friction and without adding complexity.
You will know who is responsible for your account. When something happens, you speak to someone who already knows your environment, not whoever happens to pick up the queue.
It feels like working with our own security team rather than an external supplier.

Beyond the business
We teach students real-world security operations at universities including the University of Warwick, University of South Wales and UA92. From guest lectures to hands-on lab time, we give students practical insight into what working in cyber security is really like - helping develop the skills and experience the industry needs.
Cyber security works better when knowledge is shared. Our team regularly contributes to events, discussions and conversations that help business and technology leaders better understand the threats they face and how to respond to them. From speaking at industry events to smaller peer discussions, we want to make good security thinking practical, accessible and useful.
Aruga was founded by former UK Armed Forces personnel, so supporting the Armed Forces community is part of who we are. We're proud signatories of the Armed Forces Covenant and have been recognised with a Silver Award under the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme for our commitment to supporting serving personnel, veterans, reservists and military families.
We also support Walking With The Wounded, helping veterans transition from military service into civilian life and employment.
Our free cyber security assessment tool, so any business can understand where they stand and what to do about it.
